Reader Julian Ladrido II winces everytime he hears tv people pronounce his name “Dyol-yan.” It’s OK he says. But he prefers to be called Julian as in the traditional pronunciation of Juan, Justo, Jurado.

In Spanish, “J” is pronounced as “H”. As in Juramentado and, yes, Julian. But Joe is Joe, never Hoe, right?

Speaking of one Joe I know, I never heard anyone call him Dyo-se or Jose. He’s my kapitan in Punta Princesa.

Many are asking Joe Navarro if he’s taking another crack at a City Council seat. He said “No”. He prefers to remain kapitan in my barangay where he’s boss.

I agree with Joe’s decision. Like they say, it’s better to be head of the rat (barangay) than to be tail of the lion (City Council).

I failed to fully understand this case against Tom O concerning the two Dodge cars that got him in hot water, until I read Leo Lastimosa’s well-researched “Arangkada” piece last Wednesday, Sept. 19/12. Now I know. Grabe!

Now it can be told. The Muslims in the Philippines are not going berserk like the Muslims in other parts of the world over the controversial video that criticizes the Islam prophet. As far as I know, no Pinoy Muslim group even in Mindanao has set on fire an American flag.

One educated Filipino Muslim was seen and heard on national tv urging the Islamic community in the country to show their disgust and bitterness in a peaceful manner.

OVERHEARD. Two neighbors were heard talking about the so-called “Kasambahay Law” or the law protecting domestic helpers. One of them said: “Ah, kadaghang benefits para sa helper noh? Pa-memberon sila sa SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-ibig, may 13th month pay pa.” Remarked one neighbor: “Magpamaid nalang ta, Mare.”
