 The news says: “The late DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo died in the plane crash.” Reader Nancy Romasanta wants to know: “Is this correct?”

 Nancy’s point is: “A person called ‘the late’ is already dead. Can ‘the late’ person die again?”

 A male nurse went to see a movie to enjoy but left the cinema “angry to the bone” (his words.) He sat on a discarded chewing gum soiling his white pants. This was the second similar incident reported to this column.

 Di ba maayo, Sir, nga ibawal (idili) ang chewing gum or bubble gum or pag usap-usap niini sud sa sinehan? the nurse asked. He said there are many brainless and thoughtless people who chew gum for personal pleasure but do not know how to dispose of the used gum properly.

 In Singapore chewing gum (act and/orthe product) are strictly banned. The fine for violation of the anti-gum law is stiff. Maybe they have brainless gum chewers over there.

 Did you know that some one million people commit suicide every year? So many people are killing themselves without rhyme or reason. Or maybe they’re just tired of living.

 That is why there will be an observance of World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 10 under the auspices of the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organization.

 OVERHEARD. Two women were heard talking about exotic foods. One of them said: “Nagbuwag diay si Carding ug Patring (not their real names) kay ngano? Tungod kay nasuko si Patring nga gisekreto siya’g pakaon ni Carding og adobong iro.” Reply: “Para kana ra gibuwagan gyud iyang bana? Kahilas niya (Patring). Mokaon man gani siya’g siopao nga unod sa iring ang sud (sulod).”
