The Sto. Niño in Tondo

THE EAR - The Philippine Star

TONDO. Tondo in Manila is believed to be where many Manilan toughies live. But a census taker told an Ear informer that many, if not most homes, in Tondo have images of Sr. Sto. Niño enshrined in makeshift family altars. Most of these homes are residences of Cebuano families whose menfolk work as cargadors in the North Harbor.

NOVENAS. Every Friday in January, you hear novena prayers to the Sto. Niño in Tondo, our informer said. And the prayers are in Cebuano not Tagalog. “Ug inig saulog nato sa Pista Senyor dinhi sa ato sa Sugbo, duna say selebrasyon sa Pista Senyor sa Tondo,” shares our informer.
