Pinoys more brainy than brawny?

There was this ad that said: “Because hairy will never be sexy.” The “hairy” here referred to the woman’s armpits.

That reminds me of Italian movie actress Sylvana Mangano. She was considered one of Europe’s sexiest movie stars of her time. Why? because of her hairy armpits.

We won no medals—not even one in the London Olympics. But our young contestants in the International Math Olympics in Hong Kong carted home more than 200 medals, mostly golds. It seems that Pinoys are more brainy than brawny.

Rev. Luis Perez, a Mexican religious missionary despite his Pinoy-sounding name, said our athletes in London deserve to be patted on the back even if they came home medal-less.

“God knows they tried their best not only to win medals for their country but also to prevent losing face in case of failure. Even for this alone,” the Mexican missionary said, “our athletes should be hailed and welcomed warmly home.”

The same religious missionary also said the Philippines should not get tired sending athletes to the Olympic Games wherever it is held. “If they win no medals,” he said, “at least they let the world know that you (the Philippines) exist.”

“Did you know that there are many people in the world who think that Filipinas is in Latin America?” Rev. Luis Perez said. “This wrong belief that your country is a Latin country is corrected everytime Filipinos join the Olympic Games,” he stressed.

E-mail from Dr. Daniel T. Santos: “Some 195,000 families in danger zones face relocation. PNoy wants the people in the danger zones to leave immediately. OVERHEARD. Two neighbors were talking about the financial assistance given to senior citizens by City Hall. Said one: “Nganong di man mo-avail niining assistance si papa nimo?” Answer: “Mauwaw kuno siya kay di pa man kuno siya senior citizen.” Neighbor: “Katiguwang na niya ah. Abot naman gani sa iyang kilay ang iyang uban.”
