A crispy win for Rosquillos Festival

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Philippine Star

E-mail from Ramon Asuncion Cui, “oldtime FREEMAN reader” from Cebu in the US: “Sir Jabat, kanus-a pa kaha nato madungog ang Bayang Magiliw sa Olympics no?”

***

I answered him: “Bitaw, Ramon. Sum-ol na kaayo ang Star Spangled Banner oi.”

***

Everytime I hear the Star Spangled Banner sung not only in the Olympics but in other places, too, I am reminded of my primary school days when I and my classmate sang it along with our Land of the Morning during flag ceremonies.

The PhilSTAR banner headline said: “Palace vows speedy release of rehab funds.” Speedy like “instant noodles”?

The Rosquillos Festival of Liloan won as grand champion in this year’s Pasigarbo sa Sugbo. It was a crispy win.

Another e-mail I got last week came from Mariano Celes. It said: “Now that GMA is no longer President, what’s the government doing with the Malacañang sa Sugbo? He went on to ask: “Hasn’t this local copy of Malacañang become a white elephant? I don’t think PNoy would enjoy holding socials there.”

Since the Bureau of Customs is being driven out of the building it has been renting, isn’t it wise for the government to give the Customshouse back to the BOC? This is reader Mariano Celes’ take and I share it.

North Korea has been trying to upstage South Korea in international sports contests. But it has never succeeded. Even if the comrades in Pyongyang offer cars and home appliances to the victors and throwing the losers to the labor camps.

***

This according to the North Korean athletes who brought home on medals and defected to the South for fear of the labor camps, (I have no reliable way of verifying this claim but my source is credible — a French news agency.)

Mayor Mike Rama says former Mayor and now Rep. Tomas Osmeña is “anti-Cebu City.” I asked Noy Temiong to comment on this and his answer was: “Hahay, sagdi na sila. Sagdi sad ko kay matug ko.”

OVERHEARD. A college coed was heard speaking to a classmate about a young suitor taking up a postgrad course, “Iya kong giimbitar og dinner sa SM... Dihay amiga kong ni-greet nako, akong gi-invite mo-join namo’g dinner, nasuko man ang akong ka-date. Klaro ra ba gyud nagmug-ut ang nawong. So nihunghong ang akong amiga... ‘Adto na lang ko, nasuko imong ka-date.’”
