The Catholic Church fights back vs. RH Bill!

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Philippine Star

The Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is now preparing for an all-out battle in the fight to prevent the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill from being approved in Congress and yes while many in the Clergy say that Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, III’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) was a declaration of war, the CBCP will not be waging a “shooting” war with the Aquino Regime. However, the CBCP will use its ultimate weapon in its arsenal, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Yes, it will be a prayer rally with a mass that is going to be nationwide in scope.

Allow me to repeat the call reiterated by Ms. Fe M. Barino, chair of the Catholic Charismatic Communities in Cebu (Archdiocesan Services Committee) Task Force for Family and Life (TFFL) Council of Laity for all Catholics, who believe in the preservation of life of the unborn to come out in the open and join the rally tomorrow, Saturday, August 4, for a solidarity march and Mass for Life against the RH Bill at 5:30PM.

This is a walk with prayers and candles towards Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral for the 7:00PM Mass. This mass action is the CBCP’s response to PNoy’s SONA, which pushes for a Planned Parenthood Bill instead of an RH Bill. This is what pundits often say, “It is the same dog with a new collar.”

I asked Dr. Rene Bullecer to email me a bit of the RH bill’s history and he told me that Reproductive Health was officially launched  in Cairo, Egypt in year 1994 during the International Conference on Population & Development (ICPD) where some 179 countries, including the Philippines, were the signatories. Then Department of Health (DoH) Secretary Juan Flavier represented our country and signed the document.

Since then, the RH Bill was introduced through many House Bills starting in 1998 when it was HB no. 4110 but it never took off. In 2001, it became HB no. 8110 but it floundered. In 2004, it became HB no. 3773, but it still fizzled out. In 2007 it became known as HB no. 5043, the 4th time it was filed and the 14th Congress failed to pass it. So finally, in 2010, it became HB no. 4244, but even with a President so eager to prioritize this bill, it still has to be voted upon.

So will next Tuesday, Aug. 7, be the day that the RH or the Planned Parenthood bill will be passed? Only if God wills it so. Surely, if God loves us Filipinos, he would find ways to block this evil plan concocted by godless ideologues whose only purpose is to kill the unborn and this includes PNoy and his rabid yellow minions. If you didn’t know, the RH bill is the only proposal to come out of Congress that somehow never dies even if Congress rejected it. I can only reckon, it must be the huge “lobby money” sent by international organizations to many of our politicians who make a living out of the poverty of our people.

So let us prepare ourselves for this showdown. If there is anything truly comforting, it is the fact that we heard the words of confidence from no less than CBCP President Jose Palma as he was counting on the votes of 140 congressmen who are against the measure and only 49 congressmen supporting the RH bill that will go on a vote this coming Tuesday. How did they come up with these figures? Apparently there are 85 dioceses in this country, of which 77 dioceses responded to the CBCP query. The survey showed that of the 215 congressmen, 49 would vote for the RH bill, while 140 will vote against it.

Of course, Malacañang belittles this survey perhaps because they are giving “extra” in the pork barrels of the congressmen. Last week, I chanced upon Cebu City North Rep. Cutie del Mar and asked her a point blank question, “What if there’s a demand from the Liberal Party to vote for the RH Bill via party lines… would you change your vote? Rep. Cutie was adamant that she would still vote against the RH bill as it is against her own personal and religious beliefs. I can only applaud her integrity in sticking with her principles, which few politicians today possess.

Now that the Catholic Church through the CBCP has openly declared that it would no longer be a quiet bystander in the fight against the RH bill, the remaining issues that need to be resolved is what do we do with those so-called “Cafeteria Catholics,” those people who profess their Catholic faith, yet do not obey the Magisterium of the Catholic Church?

In my book, they have self-excommunicated themselves. They might as well move out of the Catholic Church. Meanwhile, thanks to the Catholic Church, the Philippines is the only nation left in this world that still has no RH Bill, no divorce bill and no same sex marriage. Therefore, let us be a unique Catholic nation instead of following the New World order where there is total chaos and disarray for they have turned away from God.
