I agree with P-Noy on TV Patrol... but...
What can I say… but there he blows again! I’m referring to the frontal attack of the media by President Aquino who was the guest of honor during the 25th anniversary of ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol where once more, he took the opportunity to lambast the media. This just reminds me of that National Conference on Justice last December 2011 where he attacked then Chief Justice Renato Corona who was in the Presidential table with him and now this! Clearly we have a President who is seriously lacking in social graces. Where are your manners man?
In this instance P-Noy was taking potshots at no less than TV Patrol anchor Noli de Castro who was in the crowd. P-Noy was obviously irritated by the negative comments of the TV Patrol anchor turned Vice-President and back as TV anchor again. Was this because of his news reporting or was it because he was former Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s VP?
To be totally blunt about it… P-Noy should never complain about TV Patrol because it is common knowledge that ABS-CBN is highly-biased for him from the time of the Presidential campaign up to present. So any negative comment from TV Patrol actually does wonders in balancing the news in ABS-CBN. However I submit that I do agree with P-Noy in bringing this issue to the attention of the owners of ABS-CBN that TV news anchors shouldn’t make negative or positive commentaries as they are not commentators; they should only report or read the news!
When I started my TV Show “Straight from the Sky” 12 years ago, I sought the advice of my good friend, the late Angelo Castro who told me…”I envy you pare because you can speak up your mind. In the World Tonight, we only read the news and cannot comment on them.” This is why Angelo Castro will always be one of my icons in the media. A joke or two perhaps on the big news… but nary a comment.
Allow me to reprint a text sent to me by our good friend, Sonny Mirasol, former night editor of The Philippine STAR who has since retired. “Gud am, I just read in d Pilipino Star d quoted comments Pnoy made about Noli de Castro at d 25th anniversary of ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol. I believe Pnoy was right in his criticism & in airing it at the event for it to hit the mark. Besides, TV Patrol is a news program. Why should de Castro insist on a negative comment about the news? That should only be in Talkshows!
There should be no editorializing in news reports… print or TV. It’s about time TV Patrol returns to the tenets of news reporting and drop the sensationalizing, inanity, show biz gossip, etc. BTW, I was for Gibo in 2010, so am not a rabid Pnoy admirer. Tnx and God bless the Philippines.”
Thank you Sonny for this text… we seem to agree on one thing… that TV Patrol should never allow their reporters to make any comments good or bad. That is the territory of commentators or columnists. But I stand by my point that P-Noy shouldn’t have made this in public, rather he should have told the owners of ABS-CBN about this. Anyway, the die has been cast and now the media is all over the place lambasting the President for trying to kill the bearer of the news.

Searching the social networking sites, I can read many Catholic priests telling their friends that the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Aquino was literally a declaration of war against the Catholic Church… that’s because he has now clearly defined what was truly in his mind when he was selling the Reproductive Health (RH) bill, which he has now changed into a Planned Parenthood bill. If you didn’t know, his suggestion of a Planned Parenthood is an exact replica of what has happened in the United States…, which promotes abortion.
Right now… pro-lifers are getting ready for the next big step… where a vote will be pushed in Congress and later the Senate for the RH bill. My Spiritual Director Fr. Roy Cimagala sent this message in his Facebook saying, “With the approval of the Archbishop of Manila, the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Family and Life is spearheading a Prayer Rally vs the RH Bill this coming Saturday, August 4, at 1:00PM to 7:00PM at the EDSA Shrine. All Catholics who want to join.. please be there.”
That Pres. PNoy’s solution to so many students is the reduce our population is literally “killing the goose that lays the golden egg.” Thanks to a huge jobless population, Filipinos working abroad…a.k.a. Overseas Foreign Workers (OFW) have kept this nation afloat bringing home the needed dollars to prime up our economy. If Pres. PNoy did his homework and created more jobs here at home… he’d solve our poverty in no time.
