Unusual reading habit

THE EAR - The Philippine Star

OBIT SEEKERS. There’s a small group of elementary school students who read the obituaries first before the news. Strange? Yes, it is. They look for the obituaries in order to pray for those who passed away. They started doing this after their religion teacher told them that praying for the soul of the dead would bring them indulgences.

UNUSUAL. The mother of one of the students said she found it an unusual thing for her daughter and friends to look for obits in the newspapers and pray for the dead. “Only old people do that,” she told an Ear informer, “Pero OK lang. Gani ako gi-encourage ang mga bata pagpadayon sa ilang gibuhat.”
