Rama's challenge to the OBO chief
I have a friend whose favorite section in the Philippine Star is the Sunday Lifestyle which I rarely read. He said to me: “Pre, bati ka og reading taste...The Sunday Lifestyle is more fun. Try it.”
* * *
So I tried. Indeed there are many interesting things I wouldn’t have known had I not tried it. Things I don’t come across in my favorite section, the Sports Section.
* * *
For instance, I learned that fish oil helps fight cholesterol and can help solve the high blood pressure problem of many people.
* * *
I learned, too, that Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago is like a mom to actress Heart Evangelista. She calls her Tita Miriam. “Sometimes we’re on the phone talking for three hours,” Heart said. We call that telebabad, right?
* * *
There are some bits of chismis too, though wholesome chismis, not the kind we read in the showbiz tabs. Like Heart Evangelista having dinner twice with Sen. Chiz Escudero, a rumored suitor.
* * *
I bumped into an ad that said: “A one year unlimited Diode Laser Hair Removal for Lower Legs cost P10,000.” No “hair puller” is used like what they use in the old fashioned beauty shop.
* * *
This item got into my e-mail: “Sir, have you observed that many ordinary people taking part in some tv game/shows have no teeth? Am just asking because some schoolmates of mine have had that observation.”
* * *
Mayor Mike Rama has ordered the OBO (Office of the Building Official) chief to “completely remove graft and corruption among some employees.” That’s some challenge. Tough challenge.

In his “Birador” column (TF, June 5/12) my fellow columnist Rene “Renbor” U. Borromeo, commented on the OBO issue: “Bisan ako nagtoo man gayud nga dunay pipila ka kawani diha sa OBO nga tuyoon gayud sa paglangan-langan ang pag-aprobar sa dokumento aron nga mapugos ang mga applicant sa paghatag og suborno.”
