A study in contrast

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

“Vidal Urges PNoy to Disclose SALN” — Headline. Yes, he must. But Pinoy is not CJ whom the congressmen could push around. hehehe.

Sen. Lito Lapid and Sen. Miriam Defensor - Santiago were a study in contrast during the voting on the CJ impeachment trial. This one reader has observed. And you, too, perhaps.

For frankness and honesty, Sen. Lito Lapid takes the cake, so to speak. In explaining his vote for the CJ’s conviction he admitted his “ignorance” of the law and the fact that he’s only a high school graduate. This honesty won for Lito Lapid the audience’s upped thumbs.

Someone asked me: “Why did the senators who voted for CJ Corona’s conviction sounded very angry in explaining their votes?” I said I didn’t know. “Maybe,” she said, “they were voting against their will?”

Two headlines — both gory — greeted me the morning I got my copy of this newspaper last Friday: “Duljo Shooting Kills Two” and “2 Dead, 1 Hurt in Carcar shooting.” Those were not movie shoots. The dead were dead. The blood was not ketchup.

My Globe landline phone has been out of order for sometime now. I have reported this to the Globelines people. The same people who are quick to remind me of my bills although it’s still not yet time for me to pay.

In my Friday piece I said, and allow me to repeat: “The anti-Gaga elements in Manila dumped on her lots of cusswords,” according to one columnist, “Did that hit her bad? Of course not.” It should have been “of curse.” The pun was lost.

OVERHEARD. Two mediamen were discussing the senators’ vote to convict CJ Corona. One of them was heard saying: “Tanan ba sila (senators) mas limpyo kay ni Corona?” The other mediaman said: “Ambot oy, ikay nangutana ana ha.”
