The last week of February has been declared Cebuano Language Week in a Provincial Board ordinance authored by PB Member Julian Daan. A friend has suggested that during the week, the Cebuano version of the National Anthem be sung in whatever affair the anthem is supposed to be sung.

A landowner from Bohol said to me one day: “This violent squatters like those who fought the police with stones wouldn’t have seen the light of day, so to speak, if the owner of the land or property banned squatters on Day One.”

***

The landowner, who requested anonymity, said in one of his properties in Bohol, he allowed a homeless family to squat in the said property. Before he knew it, his land was already filled with other squatters who later refused to leave even if he needed the land for agricultural development. “Ila pa kong gikiha,” he said.

“Naleksiyon ko,” he said. He stopped the invasion of squatters on his other properties by planting bananas and other crops. Every square foot of the land.

By the way squatters now are called informal settlers to give a more decent name.
