A party-list of drug addicts

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

Tom and Mike are throwing mud at each other as this newspaper cartoon shows. They should hurry up before the mud dries up and hardens.

The Comelec says more groups want to join the party-list system. One group seeking admission is called “Samahan ng mga Drug Addicts.” It would be fun to watch how the Comelec would act on their application.

***

A group of ex-soldiers is also thinking of forming itself into a party-list group according to this news story here. They have already found a name: “Katropa ne Beetle Bailey.”

***

Beetle Bailey is a mainstay of the Philstar Sunday Comics who, with Hagar the Horrible, makes my day even in my sickbed.

Rep. GMA and her son Rep. Dato Arroyo have filed a bill pushing for the institutionalizing of the programs and service for the benefit of senior citizens. The benefits lined up under the bill are countless. They include, among others, medical care, social welfare, livelihood etc.

***

“Very good,” said one senior citizen from Labangon. “But before that sophisticated program for the seniors could be realized (if ever), the government should first make it sure that the seniors get the 20 percent discount on purchases in boticas without having to argue with arrogant dispatsadoras.”

***

I have been told that many senior citizens are not availing themselves of the 20 percent discount they are entitled to enjoy under the law for fear of embarrassment.

OVERHEARD. Asked what he could say about former President Ramos, Sen. Miriam Santiago was overheard saying: “As far as I am concerned he does not exist.”
