SC decision will affect the nation

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila -

If there is some highly important information that got in when I was in Manila, it is that today is a very important day for the Judiciary for it would tackle two vital issues of national importance. The SC will tackle the TRO for the PCOS machines, and the issue on how much “reparation” should the family of Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, III be paid for letting go of the Hacienda Luisita, which strikes at the very heart of the Aquino-Cojuangco family as the Supreme Court tackles the issue on.

By now, all the pundits from both sides of the political landscape have said their piece on this issue. The supporters of PNoy agree with him that their family should be paid P10 Billion for Hacienda Luisita, while the other side of the political spectrum insists that they should not be paid for land that they should have already given to the farmers by 1967.

We’ve heard more than enough coffee shop rumors, innuendoes or reports that the real story behind why PNoy so badly wanted to impeach Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was because any ruling under his watch would never be favorable to the Aquino-Cojuangco family.

A couple of months back, we heard stories that the older Cojuangcos bitterly complained to PNoy that despite all the adversities they encountered in the past, even during the time of the Marcos dictatorship when PNoy’s father, the late Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. was incarcerated by the Marcoses, the Aquino-Cojuangco family never lost their precious Hacienda Luisita. They enumerated that even after the fall of Marcos, the Hacienda Luisita still belonged to their family. But now that he is the President of the country, their family was going to lose the Hacienda Luisita.

This is why man pundits believe that the President “pressured” his allies in Congress to sign the impeachment complaint against CJ Corona “ahora mismo” and wouldn’t even entertain questions on the floor. So in less than an hour, 188 congressmen and women signed the impeachment complaint and since Congress was supposed to act as the fiscal’s office, they ended up pushing this half-baked issue to the Senate.

After the prosecution did their demolition job (which included the media smear campaign) the eight articles of impeachment were reduced to three, while the alleged 45 questionable land titles supposedly under CJ Corona’s name was reduced to only five properties. This is why today the tide has started to shift. The eyes of many people have been opened that in the end, a lot of people have now realized that the whole nation was made to suffer through this agonizing impeachment process because of the concerns of one very rich family, to the detriment of the poor farmers!

This brings us to the very important question - Where is this “Daang Matuwid” program of Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, III headed? We already told you that PNoy is literally “sleeping with the enemy” by allowing people like Ronaldo Llamas of Akbayan to be his political adviser.

If you ask me, PNoy has totally lost his priorities. I gathered that last Friday, he was in Cebu to attend the World Electronics Forum at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa. It was the first time that the event was held in the Philippines. What we didn’t know was that there was also a three-day National Convention of Hog and Chicken Growers at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City. The President or at least the Palace Rasputin’s already confirmed his attendance, as pointed out by Director Durian Tan of the Swine Development Council and Treasurer of the National Federation of Hog Farmers, but he never came.

Because of this Presidential “snub,” Gregorio San Diego, President of the United Broilers Raisers Association, declared that they are joining the hog industry in a weeklong pork holiday. PNoy should be told that playing video games is not the priority in this country. Making sure that the prices of pork and chicken remain affordable is our priority.
