A Youth Leader

READERS VIEWS - Synthia Daen Caballero -

“We the youth are the hope of our nation.” I strongly believe in this saying because we are indeed the hope and let's not spoil this belief just because of the negative environment that some youths are experiencing now.

In our generation, I can see that most youths nowadays have a lot of priorities and interests in life, and that includes: mutual relationships, computer games, “barkada”, gangs, etc… which leads to their down fall, and lack of social awareness. But how can we change that? As president of San Isidro Youth Club, we the officers of this organization promote the development of the youth through talent, education, spiritual activities, sports, and environmental awareness of each individual. Through these fields I believe that we can drive them away from the “wrong road”.

SIYC has a lot of members who are engaged to deviance. And I will never forget what one SIYC member told me. He said “thank you for having me as part of the SIYC family, it changed me a lot. Before, I admit that I was a member of one the fraternities here in the City of Talisay but now I have changed. I want to continue this act to develop myself and become a better individual.”

Let us lead the youth to a productive and bright future. Let us help them grow and live the right way, following the cultural norms of our society. Let us mold them to become good leaders and responsible individuals.

Now ask yourself “why do I sit here and do nothing, when I can stand and do something?” I believe that there is a good leader within each one of us and It's time to bring that “leadership” out not tomorrow but today. Just lead and we will follow.
