News like: “MVP offers up to P45-B for GMA Network” and “Carmen Copper Mines Hikes Toledo Output” are more of great importance to our lives than “Kyla Belies Report She’s Pregnant” or “Jewel and Jason Split up.”

The proposed Centenarians Law, which seeks to award a prize of P100,000 to every Pinoy hitting the age of 100 years appears to be a boon to makers of cure-all herbal medicines now proliferating in our so-called wellness industry.

Many of these herbal medicines do not only cure ailments ranging from skin scabies to cancer and other more serious diseases, they also make outright claim to lengthen life.

My good friend Leonardo “Daido” Angel shakes his head when he hears Cebuano school children sing the National Anthem in Tagalog. He said just for the heck of it he asked some sixth graders if they understand the lyrics of the anthem. They just kept mum but shook their heads.
