The sad experience of a balut vendor

- The Ear -

BALUT VENDOR’S CHARGE. A 15-year-old balut vendor was seen squatting at the corner of Colon and Junquera streets one night, crying. “Gihurot nila kaon ang akong balut, wa ko bayri,” he said. “Nila” refered to some women of ill repute and some pimps (“bugaw”). They feasted on his balut promising to pay later but never came back. “Nangawa lang sila,” the boy said.

SECOND TIME. It was the second time some women whom he identified as “boring” victimized him. The first time he got paid through the intervention of a barangay tanod. “Pero gipahalipayan ko ang tanod og lima ka balut.”
