It's the Year of the Dragon: Kung Hei Fat Chai!
For our special presentation on our talkshow Straight from the Sky, we discuss the most important topic of all that started last week: The Senate impeachment trial of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona. I’m sure that most of our readers may have been watching intently the TV coverage of that trial and many for sure have already made up their minds whether CJ Corona is guilty or not… which of course depends on which side of the political fence you belong. More importantly, before you get lost in translation about the evidences that the prosecution is presenting… lest you forget, all this is nothing but a political circus… not a criminal trial.
With us tonight is a good friend and a most respected lawyer, Atty. Jonathan Capanas,Dean of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) who will help educate our televiewers on what impeachment is all about and its effects on our democratic way of life. We are not taking sides on this issue, but rather we focus on making sure that our viewers would get the right picture of what is happening in the impeachment trial. So watch this very interesting discussion on SkyCable’s channel 15 at 8:00pm.

Today the Filipino-Chinese community celebrates its New Year of the Water Dragon. As what we learned from our Philippine Star Starweek geomancer JVM Francisco that the Year of the Dragon this year brings (of course for those who believe in this Chinese folklore) four blessings from the East: Wealth, Harmony, Virtue and Opportunity, which supposedly will be in abundance for this year.
For those business-oriented folks, this means globs and globs of opportunity for our economic growth and development. This sound too good to be true, right? But then we Cebuanos have always been an optimistic lot. But if the geomancer says that opening a new business in the Year of the Water Dragon is highly recommended, then I suggest that you grab this rare opportunity and get into that business right away.
The Year of the Water Dragon is also a great year for those creative minds, especially in the field of arts, music, film or fashion. 2012 is a Yang Year (it comes from the Chinese Ying and Yang) where water is flowing rather than stagnant … so we can go with the flow. I just hope that it doesn’t mean that we would have more water-borne typhoons this year.
So expect the Year 2012 to be a very exciting year especially during the second quarter, though JVM Francisco says: “It will be off to a rough and stormy start during the first month, revving up for a fast-paced and memorable year.” Well, my wife Jessica is a Water Dragon (1952), my son JV is an Earth Dragon (1988) and my first grandson Miguel Enrico “Mico” Tequillo is a Metal Dragon (2001). As for me, I’m a Metal Rabbit; so let’s check what is in store for Rabbits in the Year 2012?
As written in Starweek last Sunday it says, “The Rabbit symbolizes graciousness, good manners, sound counsel, kindness and sensitivity to beauty. The Rabbit is a witty and intelligent speaker and loves being involved in a good discussion. He is an efficient worker and has an extremely good memory. 2012 will be a busy but relatively happy year for Rabbits. It will be a year of birth or rebirth …. A new family member perhaps, a new career, a new loved one or a new lifestyle.
You will encounter fewer problems and achieve greater success in many aspects of your life. This is the right time to correct previous actions that led you somehow astray. One significant aspect of the Year of the Dragon— a powerful person will befriend you and will be helpful to you in the future.
Many Rabbits will choose to stay in their current professions. Your innate creativity and interest in innovation will push you forward in you work. However, this year will also be an opportune time for those wanting to pursue higher education or enter a new profession. Entrepreneurs will find good business opportunities in April, September, October and November.
You’ll have to exert extra effort to improve your finances by always keeping your expenses in check. A Rabbit is never poor and can live comfortably with little income but nevertheless you will enjoy the support of Dragon friends. However your ambitions should not only be focused on earning a living but also on strong motivation for change: your lifestyle, your style of management, your dealing with people, etc.
Your domestic life will be special this year and will find yourself central to your loved ones, providing the impetus to build a cohesive, strong and happy family. The first two months may be problematic as far as personal relations are concerned but you will enjoy the rest of the year with many family and social activities.” Again Kung Hei Fat Chai!
