Spanish couple seen singing "Bato Balani"

- The Ear -

“BATO BALANI.” During the mass singing of the Sto. Niño signature song “Bato Balani sa Gugma” at the Pilgrims Center one afternoon during the novena, a Caucasian couple were seen joining the devotees in the singing. They were seen also waving white handkerchiefs as they sang.

SPANIARDS. Inquiries made by an Ear informer revealed that the couple were Spaniards who spoke good Cebuano but were residents of Manila. Being devotees of the Sto. Niño, they made an effort to learn the song with the help of their Bisayan housemaid. They told the Ear informer that the true Sto. Niño devotee must know how to sing “Bato Balani sa Gugma.” They come to Cebu every year for the Fiesta Señor celebration and to visit relatives.
