The night(s) before Christmas
With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore or Henry Livingston
‘Twas some weeks before Christmas, when all through the House
One hundred eighty-eight were astir, except for some louse
Eight articles of impeachment were crafted with care
In hopes that Coronarroyo soon would be out of there.
The Congressmen all geared for the prosecution they’ll lead
While Senators donned a red robe over their head
There’s a big job to come and most citizens pray
That at long last evil will be impeached away.
From GMA’s dogsbodies arose such a clatter
Put-the little-girl-to sleep, they screamed was the matter.
Horne wept, Lambino flew, Topacio bet his balls
Arroyo sued, Corona TRO’d, kowtowing to his Queen’s calls.
It all began when P-Noy called out the truth
Nineteen Corona judgements all from poisoned fruit
Of a debt of gratitude for a midnight appointment
Now his soul and Christmas are devoid of all merriment.
For decades under a dictator and Arroyo’s nine years
Darkness and fear reigned, our country was in tears
The line of good and evil was purposely erased
A nation’s conscience numbed, beating or bribery be the case
She whistled and shouted and called them by name;
More rapid than rascals, her ilk they all came
Now Alex! Now Bobby! Now Amado! Now Carmen!
On Edsel! On Mitos! On Joker! On Miriam!
Just bash away! Bash away! Bash away all!
Lie, harass, attack until my enemies fall!
It’s payback for all the largesse you’ve received
To hell with Pinoys whom you’ve always deceived
For many many seasons Filipinos bear the brunt
Of plundering leaders, grinding poverty they grant,
The ballots, the bench, the pew were all bought
No haven for solace, no justice could be sought
Every deal and contract, their grimy hands caught in the till
Brought Motherland to her knees, all hopes dead and still.
From the purloined seat of power she will come crashing down
With cunning and defiance, still clinging to her crown
First Family coffers a-chock-full and out-of-sight
Stashed in Syria, Portugal, Brazil, mammon is might
And so the grisly villains are all decked out for war
The nightmares of Christmas that left us a deep scar
Outside and inside, black and shameless
Soon to the people they’ll all have to confess.
Out Mercy! Out Rene! Out GMA! Out Abalos!
Out all who betray and plunder! Out all the a-robos!
The good people have had enough of you.
The tidings foretell that you are all through!
Now Coronarroyo vows he’ll never resign
To the Senator Judges, his fate he consigns
Unmindful of the costs his trial will incur
Or could it be there’s another deal to concur?
Him in black robes, them in red robes
We the citizens wearing only high hopes
One says only ten are likely to convict
If they don’t do their duty, them the people will evict
To Bong Revilla, Lito Lapid, Bongbong Marcos, we pray
To the undecided hear what the people say.
It’s time you choose the good of many over politics
Enough of the grandstanding, enough of rhetoric!
If not for us, you will not be there
Do what is right, live the vow you swear.
We’ve suffered enough through all the corruption
NBN, Philhealth, stealing even the Election
Impunity seeped out through all institutions
Church, Military, Judiciary need transformation!
And just when the yoke grew too heavy to cope
There twinkled from the heavens, a sign of new hope
One honest man that all citizens can follow
At last a leader who believes public trust is hallow.
Little by little the seed of trust is growing back
Bit by bit faith in government no longer lack
As we drew in our breath, and is turning around
In our hearts flowed in hope, optimism is abound
Four more Christmases to go, not very much time
For all the past villains to answer for their crime
With cautious positivity
We greet the Nativity
With a dream that can be realized
Prosperity for all can materialize.
Let’s start with Coronarroyo,
Then move on to Arroyo-Otso
We all know better than to let down our guard
The fiends see the end coming, it’s written in their card.
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-fight.”
