He who is w/o sin.

PER CHANCE - Cito Beltran -

During the premier season of the hit reality TV show “Ikulong si Gloria Macapagal Arroyo,” I caught a few episodes that showed promise and creativity. In fact if they actually gave awards to politically motivated real life telenovelas, the first season of “Put the little girl to sleep” might win an award for comic relief!

What else would you call it when former president Joseph Estrada decided to join in and dish out his vintage one liners regarding justice and the need for no one to be exempt? When Erap started talking about mug shots, little did he realize that he would be stirring up interests in “his” very own mug shots.

Faster than he could spell “paparazzi,” the media already placed the only known mug shots of Erap taken by the Philippine National Police.

Like a child that didn’t learn his lesson, Erap continued his commentaries and pointed out that there should be no special treatment for Gloria Arroyo such as house arrests. It seems the former President has quickly forgotten that he also received “special” treatment and house arrests. In fact his detention area in Tanay was often referred to as, the Tanay Hilton, by his enemies.

I guess the lesson that Jesus Christ taught us about Mary Magdalene still makes a lot of sense even in the year 2011: He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone. Of course if you dare to do so, remember the other lesson: By what measure you judge, in same shall you also be judged.

The best segment in a comedy performance and retort should be shared by Budget Secretary Butch Abad and PGMA spokesperson Elena Bautista Horn. When asked for a reaction about the statement of Mrs. Horn that they know about Oplan “Put the Little Girl to sleep,” Secretary Abad commented in the most ungentlemanly manner that “She should have her head examined.”

Elena Bautista showed why she qualified as spokesperson for the country’s most controversial person, by replying: I am willing to have my head examined. Perhaps we should all have our heads examined, perhaps they should also bring his President (Noynoy Aquino) to also have his head examined!

The irony of the matter is the fact that, the people showing signs of stress and bitchiness are the people from Malacañang and the government. Rather than being magnanimous or polite in their statements and reactions, PNoy’s people are showing signs of stress or down right rudeness. Unfortunately, even the President has slid down to the gutter by giving answers such as we don’t deal with “fiction.”

I don’t know if it’s the sarcasm or the cold curt manner, but either way PNoy and his people seems to overlook one major factor with regards to their conduct. As persons with official titles they are expected to conduct themselves in a manner and language appropriate to their title.

A Secretary of Justice should act with far more formality and reserve instead of conducting herself as a rabid litigation lawyer. A Secretary of Budget should not have commented at all and excused himself. It is not his area of authority and he had no business dragging the department that he represents into the political tit for tat.

The leftist block in Congress are calling for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Renato Corona to inhibit himself from the Arroyo case because of personal history and possible bias.

My reaction is to ask the leftists if they are willing to remove themselves from Congress considering they were once or still are enemies of the state with communist links which technically gives several of them a “criminal past.”

Are they willing to remove themselves from any budget deliberations or strategic consultations that the AFP may need to do with Congress, because the leftists members of Congress were once declared as enemies of the state.

I guess it is our human nature to forget that many of us were once “sinners,” some Biblically, while others politically. We cannot meddle in the affairs of others if we ourselves still have skeletons in the closet. It is one thing to suggest but it is a totally a different matter to demand integrity with bloody or dirty hands.
