The DOH and Unicef are spearheading the promotion of hand washing against disease. Pontius Pilate also washed his hands but for a nasty reason.

The CHED is alarmed by the rash of violence in schools. “Dapat lang,” said my godson Honesto Dapat.

Seriously speaking, haven’t you noticed that violence in schools happen more often and more seriously in some countries whose culture many of us look up to as better than ours.

E-mail from Rigoberto Toling of Tagbilaran City: “Former Rep. Robert Ace Barbers has suggested that control numbers or letters be painted on the back portion of the helmets of motorcycle riders. The reason for this is obvious: “To make it easier to identify motorbikers who commit a crime.”

I agree with Mr. Toling. It’s too bad that former Rep. Barbers thought of it only now that he’s no longer a lawmaker. But a good law is a good law regardless of who thought of it first.

All Saints’ Day is just around the corner so to speak. So I think it’s timely to recall the marker or lapida I saw in burial plot at the Queen City Gardens some years ago. It was covered with weeds. The lapida had this inscription on it: “You will always be remembered.”
***
He is always remembered all right — on All Saints’ Day when it’s time to clean the grave and cut the cogon grass and weeds that have covered it. He’s always remembered by his “loved once.”

Going back to the DOH and Unicef promotion of handwashing against disease, this reminds me of a man in my place who never washed his hands, let alone his entire body, but is still alive.
***
This man, maybe in his forties, looks so dirty some people think he’s a psycho case. He eats only when there is something for him to eat. And yet — yes, and yet — he has outlived many health buffs in our community.

I am not saying ... let’s not wash our hands, let’s not take a bath, in order to live long. I’m just citing an irony, that’s all.

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago has expressed the desire to visit ex-President GMA because she was told that Ate Glo is in bad shape. Very sick. And has lost much weight.
***
If GMA is really in bad shape —very sick — as revealed by Maid Miriam, it behooves those who were once close to GMA, especially if they had made hay while the sun shone, to pay her a visit.
