Fighting the RH bill with God's love
In a meeting with the Task Force for Family and Life-Visayas, I was asked why I have not started again to write against the Reproductive Health (RH) bill, more so that Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago has fired off the bow from the Senate declaring that all this is in the privacy of the bedroom. It would have been easy for me to debunk Sen. Santiago’s obviously tactless retort on the right to privacy. But rather than resume hostilities, I would rather show people like Sen. Miriam what is God’s love…Deus Caritas Est!
There is no question that we have analyzed, debated, researched and discussed the pros and the cons of the RH bill and what would befall our nation if the people’s Representatives in Congress pass this horrific bill and President Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III would sign it into law. All that one needs to do is look at all the nations that embraced their respective RH bills and passed it into law… and you will notice that they went further on to pass two more laws offensive to God… the pro-abortion law and divorce law. Then take a good look at what is happening at their economies today and you will be amazed how these western nations are suffering through an economic crisis that they just can’t seem to solve anymore and yes historic disasters!
If there is anything I have left in this fight against the RH bill, it is my strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, who promised us that he would be with us till the end of time. Speaking of having a strong faith, I recall a beautiful story by Pope Pius XII at the height of World War II when the world was crashing around Rome and the Vatican. Pope Pius XII was asked by a friend about his faith in God at the height of this Great War happening in Europe.
Pope Pius then led the man who asked him the question to the Papal chambers. Just outside his bedroom is a painting of one of the disciples waking up the sleeping Jesus Christ on the boat in the Sea of Galilee at the height of the storm. Pope Pius then pointed to this painting and told the story as written in the Bible in Matt 8:23-27, where the Lord Jesus Christ was awakened by his terrified disciples and the Lord woke up and calmed the seas and said to his disciples, “Why are you terrified? O you of little faith!”
What the Pope was telling his friend was that, even in our darkest hour, our Lord is always with us in doing the will of his Father in heaven. So too with the rest of us who claim to be followers of our Lord Jesus Christ that we must have faith in the Love of Christ, that he would always be with the Filipino people and not forsake our country. Therefore we must teach those who promote hatred and the destruction of the unborn what love is all about… above all what the Love of God really is!
We can start showing God’s love by the simple act of praying the Holy Rosary, first to Pres. Benigno “PNoy” Aquino, III, to Rep. Edcel Lagman, to Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago and bombard them with prayers of love so that they too would embrace God’s love for all of his creation, including the unborn. The Holy Rosary is the ultimate weapon that brought down the Marcos Dictatorship in EDSA 25-years ago. We should use it to destroy the evil that is poised upon the Filipino people through the evil called the RH bill.
God is not deaf or refuses to heed our cries and our prayers. Not many know that I saw the hand of God when a humble shepherd from Samar, by the name of Archbishop Jose Palma was moved to Cebu to take over the ailing Ricardo Cardinal Vidal as Archbishop of the biggest archdiocese in the Philippines. In less than a year, Arch. Palma was elected president of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
I asked Arch. Palma whether he expected that he would be elected to lead the CBCP? He told me that this was a total surprise to him. Clearly this is a great message from God, to remind us Filipinos that Christianity took its roots in Cebu when Ferdinand Magellan came here in 1521 and gave us our Christian faith and left the Sto. Niño to Queen Juana. God’s message is that, Cebu will play a key role in this spiritual battle of good versus evil and the charge will be lead by the humble Arch. Palma.
Even before he was elected CBCP head, the entire political leadership in the Province of Cebu closed ranks with the Catholic Church, from Gov. Gwen F. Garcia, Rep. Eduardo Gullas (1st Dist), Rep. Pablo Garcia (2nd Dist), Rep. Pablo John Garcia (3rd Dist), Rep. Ben-Hur Salimbangon (4th Dist), Rep. Red Durano (5th Dist), Rep. Luigi Quisumbing (6th dist) and Rep. Arturo Radaza (Mactan) and Party-List Rep. Pastor “Jun” Alcover.
In Cebu City, Rep. Rachel “Cutie” del Mar (North Dist) is like her father so pro-Life. Only Rep. Tomas Osmeña (South Dist) is pro-RH, however he openly declared that in deference and respect to former Rep. Raul del Mar he won’t be voting for or against the bill. So the prayer warriors in Cebu are ready to battle the RH Bill and bombard them with God’s love through praying the Holy Rosary for God will never forsake our country.
