Is there a wang-wang in your place of work?

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

Someone called me up to interview me on my take about PNoy’s SONA. I said the SONA was OK and not OK depending on what one’s political persuasion is.

* * *

Thousands of militant protesters were seen on TV waiving placards and calling PNoy’s SONA “a useless exercise.” Another militant said “the SONA is full of lies.” How did he know?

* * *

The President was yet to deliver his SONA when the rallyists started calling its contents lies. Oh, my goodness!

* * *

 One militant rallyist said PNoy has been a failure. “Kasi,” he said, “hindi niya naibaba ang presyo ng langis.” As if PNoy is Saudi Arabia.

 Wang-wang, the sound of the car siren, which PNoy banned right after assuming office, has assumed a new and significant meaning. If you’re arrogant and abusive, you’re a wang-wang and you’re supposed to be the enemy of the people.

 PNoy said in his SONA that corruption and immunity are among the evils symbolized by wang-wang.

 The Pagcor spent P1billion on coffee, according to PNoy. Maybe to keep the gamblers awake all night and keep the poker and baccarat tables busy.

* * *

 But a friend of mine (name withheld upon request) who spends some hours at night in the Pagcor Casino in Lahug, says there is no more free coffee for casino players. He said there used to be evening snack freebies but now no more. Only hot water and sugar for those who bring with them their own coffee in sachets.

 Someone connected with an airline company said: “Travel today has become faster and faster. You can have breakfast in Cebu and lunch in Hong Kong...It takes only a few hours air travel from Manila to the US.”

* * *

 I said nice. But on the ground it takes longer to reach the airport by car than to reach Hong Kong by air. That reminds me. Once, I sent off a Singapore-bound relative at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. He texted me on arrival at Singapore’s Changi Airport. I was still in a taxi on the way home in Punta Princesa. Hehe.

 Have you noticed that the Big Dome in Quezon City is now named “Smart Araneta Coliseum.” I was told that Sir Manuel V. Pangilinan has leased the coliseum from the Aranetas for five years. So from now on it’s Smart Araneta Coliseum.
