THE LORD’S PRAYER. A Filipino priest based in the US has commented that in the Philippines, The Lord’s Prayer is sung in different tunes and lyrics depending in which region (Bicol, Ilocos, Mindanao, Visayas, etc.) one hears Mass. “So that a churchgoer who is not familiar with the tune and lyrics of a particular version of the Our Father cannot join the singing,” the priest said.
JUST PRAY IT
. He said that in many countries he had attended Mass in, the churchgoers do not sing the Lord’s Prayer. They just “pray it” aloud in unison. “That way,” he said, “the music and lyrics are of no moment.” The priest made it clear: “I am not criticizing, just making an observation.”
