Our opinion columnists are too opinionated?

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

It says here that many newspaper readers don’t read the opinion columns. Maybe because they say the columnists are too opinionated.

A PUJ driver who had one drink too many swallowed a bullet for show and landed in the hospital. You bite the bullet, Bai, not swallow it.

“Jobless Pinoys Now 11.3 million” — Headline. This is one instance where the more is not the merrier.”

A beauty expert says many Pinay beauty contestants are actually obese. Is that why our showbiz columnists always say they’re heavy favorites?

It says here that a tobacco warehouse in Vigan was bombed. It went up in smoke but it won’t Vigan for long.

A newspaper in India reported that a policeman was bitten by a dog while he was on beat patrol. The next day the same paper corrected its report saying it was the policeman who bit the dog. Animal rights advocates sued the cop and had him tested for rabies.

A Mrs. Matilde Santalucia, who says she’s the organizer of the Caring Hands Mothers Club in Sta. Cruz, Manila, wants Manny Pacquiao to “please rein in” Aling Dionisia before she gives him more black-eyes ahead of Juan Manuel Marquez.

Mrs. Santalucia, who spoke to me in Tagalog on the phone, said some people including fans of Manny, do not approve, to say the least, of the way Aling Dionisia “praises her son in public.” But didn’t they say “mother knows best”? Oh, well.

I heard on TV Wednesday night that veteran Cebuano writer Satur Apoyon, who also wrote articles in English (Free Press, Graphic, Mod, etc.), died in Davao City under still mysterious circumstances. Satur’s body was found floating at sea. God bless his soul.

The headline says: “CCPO Chief Offers to Mentor Joavan.” Heard of the saying that goes: “If you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em”?. In the present case, if you can’t beat him with a rod, use a powder puff.
