Let us join everyone else throughout the world observe Earth Hour. Please pass on this urgent message to others too!
Let your participation in today’s Earth Hour also be your prayer, your tribute back to the Lord God who provided us all with a sustainable world to live in and to take care of. Let your contribution for today’s Earth Hour be your Lenten offering for cleansing our earth of harmful practices and consequences that destroy God’s creations. Related to today’s Earth Hour, Vince Cinches of FIDEC, sent a press statement, a timely reminder about today’s important event that we wish to share with you all.
Entitled “Earth Hour: Time is up for Coal! It’s time for 350,” Vince clarifies that “the figure 350 is not just a mere number, it symbolizes the safest upper limit of carbon dioxide (CO2 )in our atmosphere.” As we had explained as well last article, “carbon emissions mainly come from regular human activities such as our daily transportation, industrial production, and coal-fired power plants”.
According to Vince’s press statement, “last week the atmospheric carbon level was 392.29 parts per million”, higher than the safest level - 350 parts per million”.
If we do not go below the present higher carbon level, “scientists say that the damage we are already experiencing and seeing from global warming will continue to worsen. In fact, we have just had the warmest February since 1880, with global temperatures soaring a record 12.5 Celsius higher!”
To avert further global warming and harmful climate change, those committed to attaining the 350 parts per million carbon level, those who belong to 350.org “ aim to promote environmental awareness not only among the youth but throughout the entire world. They also aim to translate the awareness into meaningful actions and solutions.
To hit 350, everyone is enjoined to pursue a green economy which will make cities and islands sustainable.
The 350.org also suggests that before turning off electricity tomorrow to “lower carbon footprint,” everyone also call on “political leaders to immediately pursue the following:1) moratorium on the construction of additional Coal-Fired Power Plants around the country, 2) implement the agreements of the Renewable Energy Summit towards making our province the hub for renewable energy, 3) return our roads and other public spaces to the people with bike lanes, walk ways, and sustainable, low-carbon transportation as priority, 4) review current local economic policies and develop new investment guidelines that will ensure green architectures, green jobs, and green investment, 5) institutionalize sustainable agriculture, by supporting efforts of our local farmers in weaning themselves from fertilizer-intensive farming, and, 6) immediately develop a resiliency plan, to detail our adaptation plan to various disasters brought by climate change, and other causes”. The 350.org calls on everyone to join hands and “decarbonize our economy”. From today’s Earth Hour, the key is to hit 350. Let us aim to lower the present high carbon levels to 350. Would you like to save others, save the earth, and save yourself as well? Join tonight’s Earth Hour, if you have not yet started to do so! Join tonight’s Earth Hour if you had started years back to do so!
An hour of darkness at 8:30pm tonight is a good start and a good continuation to sustain the campaign to practice eco-friendly ways from now on. Cheers to all who will turn off their lights even just for an hour tonight!
Let us lift the whole world’s one hour of darkness, or every year’s Earth Hour, up to the heavens to chase away all those toxic gases and abusive evildoers that harm our earth, our world, our people, ourselves.
Happy Earth Hour at 8:30 tonight!
