EDITORIAL - Osmeña gets what he wants

Early signs of last Monday's barangay election pointed to another landslide victory for the candidates allied with the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan.

This means that the political bandwagon of Cebu City south district Representative Tomas Osmeña will have its members to compose the majority in the next setup of the Association of Barangay Councils. And, of course, the next ABC president will be another BOPK stalwart.

BOPK's continued dominance in barangay politics is not really surprising. For as long as Osmeña remains in politics, BOPK will remain the household name in Cebu City politics.

The fact that the city will always remain an Osmeña bailiwick can largely be attributed to the congressman. Osmeña has the charisma and the political acumen that have been his magnet for voters.

The neophyte House member has never lost in any election since entering the political arena in 1988. Now, his managerial skills strengthened his political clout among Cebuanos.

As his political business prospered, Osmeña made it a point that he should have what it takes to continue the legacies left by his father and grandfather.

That is why through his formidable political machineries, the former mayor can always get what he wants. A case in point was his campaign to oust the Faelnars from the Guadalupe captaincy.

Osmeña has supported the opponent of Dino Faelnar, the son the incumbent Guadalupe barangay captain Eugenio Faelnar. Dino ran for barangay captain to succeed his father but lost to Michael Gacasan.

Now Osmeña can comfortably sit in his Congress office. He has been assured by his constituents in Guadalupe that his barangay will be going safely to the hands of his anointed one.
