What is keeping P.Noy from allowing Robredo full control of DILG? Why is he only on an acting secretary capacity? Wasn't Robredo P.Noy's early choice for the DILG? Why the apparent change of mind and heart?
Was it P.Noy who changed his mind or was P.Noy pressured to change his mind? If P.Noy listens to his bosses (remember in his SONA, he said, "Kayo ang amo ko" to the Filipinos whom he has vowed to serve?), then let us, by all means, bombard him through all forms of media with statements of support for Robredo to make P.Noy hear the voices and the clamor for Robredo to be assigned as DILG, to be given full trust, control and responsibility to be DILG chief!
What has P.Noy got to lose? By finally assigning former Naga Mayor Jesse Robredo as DILG Secretary, P.Noy will be doing the Filipino people who elected him as President a major, major favor.
Environmental lawyer Golly Estenzo-Ramos captures the sentiments of our people rooting for a very honest, very capable person. She emailed: "We fully support DILG Sec. Robredo. We believe in and subscribe to his vision of transparent, accountable and participatory governance in our country. We are tired of infighting. We simply do not have time to be waylaid by insignificant issues, which are traceable to the corrupt Arroyo regime. Let us move forward. Sec. Robredo's appointment is the best thing that happened to DILG.
Aksyon Kabataan has also thrown in their support for DILG Chief Jesse Robredo.
Their emailed statement reminds both P.Noy and all the Filipino people about the significant positive steps taken by Robredo as soon as he was designated as DILG chief after elections.
For example, the Aksyon Kabataan statement notes that "in so short a time, ( Robredo) had the tenacity to suggest to local politicians that government projects need no billboards and anti-environment tarpaulins that brandish their names and impose their mortifying faces unto an aghast public. In so doing, he has not only championed the concept of "taxpayer's money", he has also inadvertently struck at the very heart of patronage politics.
Aksyon Kabataan also adds that "In (Robredo's) first sally into the national scene, he buckled down to work, put the "Sunlight Principle" to work, and re-introduced the posting of the Financial Statements, expenditures and budgets of local government units and public agencies on their respective websites. Without waiting for the Freedom of Information bill to be enacted, this move not only pleased the net-savvy jejemons of our generation, but this showed great promise in finally exterminating the very microbes that nurture the seeds of greed."
He continues to show everyone that he is "an accessible servant-leader willing to listen and to engage the different sectors and communities."
Aksyon Kabataan calls on the youth to support Robredo as DILG Chief for his unquestionable character and un-matched competence, qualities which are being endangered and becoming extinct amid so much corruption and greed.
The group is also calling upon "Congress persons and representatives to be above the political fray and to truly represent the will of the people by reinforcing our search for good leaders."
"Losing him from that post is both a great disservice and unnecessary loss to the Filipino people. Let us not squander this opportunity to be served by a true public servant."
The Facebook is also now filled with statements of support for a very rare, honest, public servant. Will you allow our country to lose such a very rare gem like Jesse Robredo?
Let your voices be heard loud and clear to P.Noy. Appoint Jesse Robredo as DILG Chief now, not as acting chief. Allow him to do to DILG what he did to Naga. Allow transparency, humble and genuine public service into DILG soon and see how Robredo demonstrates the true meaning of honest-to-goodness genuine public service.
Allow Robredo and his sincere, transparent public service to restore the dignity of P.Noy's government.
