Cebuanos still upset with Gloria Diaz

CEBUANO ENGLISH. After the “major, major” answer of Miss Philippines during the Miss Universe pageant, Gloria Diaz, another beauty queen, made it to the list of hot topics, at least for Cebuanos, in coffeeshops and social networking sites. People responded with outrage over her statements about Cebuanos’ English speaking skills, when she said, “Kasi when you think about a Cebuana can hardly speak English and of course Tagalog. Maybe she should answer in Bisaya.”

 PUBLIC APOLOGY, NOT DENIAL. After The FREEMAN came out last week with an exclusive interview with Ms. Diaz, the Cebuano readers still weren’t satisfied. One said over Facebook, “What she said was very clear in the tv interview against Cebuanos pero deny gihapon siya. Denial queen gyud siya. Ang gipangita sa mga Cebuanos gikan niya public apology, dili denial.” Another said, “Dapat siya mo-apologize kay kun dili dapat i-blacklist na siya sa Cebu. Maghimo unta’g resolution ang Cebu legislators to make her persona non grata.”
