I have always questioned the correctness of that phrase “lucky winners.” Because my argument is, all winners are lucky. But I have not come to realize that not all winners are lucky. There are unlucky ones.

My friend and tocayo Johnny Seguenza called me last Sunday to greet me on TF’s 91st anniversary. “Sorry, I’m a little late,” he said. “OK lang,” I said. “At least, you remembered.” My tocayo is 82 years old.

Some years back, a man I didn’t know from Adam, approached me in my office to apply for a reportorial job. He was jobless for sometime now, he said, and he got a wife and two kids to support. I said there was no opening and no budget for additional reporter.

He said: “OK lang, Sir, bisan way suweldo. Tagai lang ko’g press card.” I got what was in his mind. I said: “Mapakaon ba nimo’g press card ang imong asawa ug duha ka anak?” After a while he decided to leave.
