When is Philippine Independence Day?

WRONG DATE. Many are now confused with when the country’s Independence Day should really be celebrated. Many of the older generation insist that July 4 should have been the correct date of Philippine independence and not June 12. Many of the younger generation, on the other hand, are not even aware of the June 12 celebration, as when asked many would say, “Karong Lunes” (June 14). A mediaman commented, “Na, mao na ni ron. Unsaon, kay balhin-balhinon man gud ang petsa. Nagsinurambaw na.”

WRONG ROAD USE. The Ayala access road adjacent to Gorordo Ave., just a few meters from the Cebu City Police Office, has been used by enterprising residents as space for carenderia. They have set up tables on the pavement and one lane has been used as parking space for customers. Now, a tent and a makeshift stage has been put up. An Ear informer is wondering, “Gigamit nila ang one lane gyud sa dalan. Naa ba kaha ni permit?”
