The tradition lives on

Someone sent me a piece of paper on which this line is written: "A man apt to promise is apt to forget." He's driving at someone or something. Or so I think.

Congressman-elect Tom O has made an advance notice to Cebuanos that there's not much to expect from him as a congressman. At least, in his freshman year. Well, truth to tell, no one is expecting much.

He's right, Tom O. In the House of Representatives he's just a "prince," while in Cebu as mayor he's "king." That's like what someone has said: In Congress he'll just a tail of the lion, but in Cebu as mayor, small though his domain be, he's the head of the rat.

Many politicians who lost in the May 10 elections have not accepted defeat. They continue to insist they won but were cheated. The tradition lives on!

Poll automation has changed for the better many of the old ways in our manual elections. But it has failed to change our habit of shamelessly claiming victory even in the face of disastrous defeat.

Pastor A. Quiboloy who prayed over the teary-eyed Gibo prior to May 10 wondered and continues to wonder where the millions of votes he asked God to shower Gibo with went. The Lord didn't listen to the Pastor? He must've listened to the millions who prayed for Noynoy whom the Pastor blacklisted.

Congressman-elect Manny Pacquiao admits that the boxing ring is different from the halls of Congress. And he admits, too, that after his election in Sarangani he finds himself in a different kind of terrain. He also admits he needs a refresher course on the protocol of the House. Manny's admissions are all well taken.

Manny Pacquiao should be praised for his desire to know the ins and outs of Congress, which is why he's going to UP to study. Other neophytes should do what Manny intends to do. They owe it to their constituents who expect much from them as their representatives.

I heard some pro-Binay followers hailing in Tagalog Binay's vice presidential race victory. Hindi pa tapos ang boksing, guys. Let's wait for the final count.
