The problem with taxi drivers at Pier 1

- The Ear -

READER’S REACTION. Fr. Seán Coyle, a TF reader, reacted to Nimrod Quiñones report in his Motorists’ Corner May 18 about the problem with taxi drivers at Pier 1. He said that the problem has been there for years. He said that he would often arrive in Cebu after an overnight trip from Mindanao, tired and hungry, to be “met by ‘cowboys’ masquerading as taxi drivers, but in reality members of the Cebu equivalent of the Jesse James Gang, who have zero respect for any prospective customers.”

POLICE AT PIER. He suggested that there should be police on duty at the exits to all the piers when most passenger ships arrive between 5 and 7A.M. He added that there should also be a system whereby taxis line up and take their turn. “Drivers who try to bargain or who refuse to use their meters or to take passengers to nearby destinations should have their taxis clamped for the day.”
