Some senatoriables are fun

I like to listen to the senatorial debates on tv. It's fun. The senators-to-be enjoy their freedom of speech. Sometimes with reckless abandon but that's where the fun comes in.

Manny Valdehueza, candidate for senator from Cagayan de Oro, was heard saying during the ABS-CBN's Harapan senatorial debate: "The money for the barangays is kurakoted in Manila."

* * *

Rep. Ompong Plaza from Mindanao urged the people to vote for him, saying: "Lahat ng lungsod may Plaza ... Lagyan natin ng Plaza ang Senado."

* * *

Reminds me of then Congressman Pichay. When he ran for the Senate, he urged the voters to plant Pichay in the Senate. But they ignored him, compelling GMA to plant Pichay elsewhere.

Reelectionist Sen. Pia Cayetano continues to impress me with her grasp of issues and her being articulate in discussing these issues. She's giving other Senate bets a run for their money.

Immediately after the Mayweather-Mosley fight, I got this text message from Arnold Guzman, a TF reader in faraway Dinagat. The name of the place is familiar but I don't know where it is (sorry).

* * *

Reader Arnold described the fight as "boring." He observed that Mayweather was extra cautious. "Afraid, it seems, that his 'pretty' face would be disfigured," he said. "Against Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather won't be a big bore because Manny would sock it to 'em and force him to mix it up nga maoy ampay ni Manny nga buhaton sa iyang kontra."

I like to watch boxing but I'm not into the habit of analyzing the boxers' styles. I leave that to Chino Trinidad. And my fellow columnist Aven Piramide and former Judge Lorenzo "Loring" Paradiang, who once in a while analyze moves of well-known fighters.

I often hear people say — including the so-called intellectuals — that Gibo Teodoro is the brightest of the present crop of presidentiables. He's got what it takes to be a great President. But this same people often add: "But I'm not voting for Gibo kay usik lang boto ko, nangiwit siya sa mga survey."

That's what my friend Jun Yasay (running for Veep) often says: "If we dump the good candidate because we think he's got no chance to win, no good candidate will never have the chance to serve us." That's why we're stuck with the trapos, right, Jun?
