There's money in being a "political supporter"

- The Ear -

HAKOT. A resident of an urban barangay told The Ear that there’s big money in supporting political candidates. She said she’s part of the “hakot” crowd that would follow and “support” political candidates in their campaign sorties. She said that barangay leaders would contact her and her neighbors and they would then go with these political candidates wherever they campaign. She said, “Ang barangay leaders daku-daku ang bayad kay siya man ang manghakot namo. Kami, tag P100 ra. Apan daghan man mokuha namo nga mga politiko, kuyog-kuyog ra sab mi.”

SWITCHING COLORS. These “hakot” crowd would clap and cheer for the candidate and in return they would be given free T-shirt, snacks and money. The Ear informer said, “Kasagaran naay libre snacks, T-shirt ug P100 nga pahalipay. Pero naay walay budget, T-shirt ra. Gahapon didto mi ni __. Ugma labang na sab mi, adto mi sa kaaway niya. Hehe! Bisan unsa ra among color, basta mobayad lang.”
