CENTURIES OLD. An Ear informer found two centuries-old trees cut down. The trees’ roots have also been cut to pieces. These two acacia trees are at the streetside along Escario. What used to be massive trees with wide branches have been reduced to a stump. The Ear informer said she was walking along Escario St. on Earth Day when she found these trees. “Pagka luoy intawon sa mga Acacia. These trees used to give us shade from the heat of the sun and shelter from the rain, pero karon, ilang gipatay. To think, Earth Day karon.”
ATTENTION DENR, DPWH. Across the street from the murdered trees is a picture of a smiling GMA and a statement that there is an ongoing road widening project of Escario St. Adding insult to injury, campaign posters of presidentiable and senatoriable candidates were nailed into the tree trunks. The informer is calling the attention of government agencies concerned, especially the DENR, to save what remains of these centuries-old trees. “Basin ma-replant pa ni sila. Attention DENR, DPWH and environmentalist groups: Please let’s save these trees.”
