NECKLACES FROM CEBU. A Cebuano visiting Zamboanga was on his last day there and hunting for souvenirs to take home to his friends. In a small marketplace he spied native necklaces decent enough to look authentic and cheap enough he could buy them by the dozen. “Palit diri sir! Mga nindot ni! Gikan gyud ni sa Cebu!” the vendor said just as the Cebuano was about to make his selection. He later told the Ear he did not even offer the vendor an explanation why he left in a huff.
DRIVE AND DRINK. An Ear source said he was on a jeepney when he saw his driver take tagay (shots) from a group of his friends drinking by the side of the road. When he cautioned the driver against drinking while driving, the driver just looked at him and laughed, telling him it was the third shot he’d had that night as he had driven by his friends thrice already. And he said the night was still young. His conductor also laughed off the comments of the passengers. The source later said what struck him most was the cavalier attitude of the driver and conductor when it came to the safety of their passengers.
