Tsunami scare bad for beach business

- The Ear -

EMPTY BEACHES. Because of the tsunami alert brought by the 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile, it has brought tsunami alerts all over the Pacific, including countries in Asia. People usually flock to the beach on Sunday but there were reports of empty beaches last weekend as people did not dare go near the sea for fear of the oncoming tsunami. A family from Talisay City said they usually head to the beach during weekends but said they were scared of the tsunami. The housewife said, “Kuyaw kaayo uy, suyupon unya akong mga anak sa dagat. Lisod na.”

BAD BUSINESS. A vendor who sells food and drinks in Mactan said that the tsunami scare was bad for his business. He said that his profit is usually very good during weekends but since there were very few people at the beach last weekend, he said, “Lugi ko. Alkansi ko sa akong gi-angkat. Naka-tapal pa gani ko. Nakadala’g dimal ning tsunami da. Wala pa gyud niabot.”
