Pista Senyor postscript
The Sinulog Foundation is looking for a bigger venue for next year’s show. The Grandstand burst at the seams with 60,000 people when it’s supposed to be good for only 16,000. “Try Araneta Coliseum,” says a reader.

Even Araneta Coliseum can’t hold 60,000 spectators. “Try CICC,” says another reader, covering her mouth as she laughs at her own try at humor.

Either this reader hasn’t been to the CICC or she just wants to see Tom O die laughing. Or his hayblad rising.

A Pista Senyor guest from a city in Northern Mindanao was heard complaining about the unwashed spoons and forks in a carinderia. That’s where they serve food dirt cheap.

It rained during the Pista Senyor procession but that did not stop the two million or so devotees from taking part. One senior citizen (a woman) was heard saying: “Dili man asin ang atong debosyon sa Senyor.”

The same senior citizen said: “Gitestingan lang ta sa Senyor asa kutob ang atong debosyon Niya.” And the Cebuanos passed the test with flying colors. No reference to the umbrellas that came in different colors.

News reporters — print and broadcast — still call the Basilica del Sto. Niño “menore.” It’s no longer a minor basilica. It’s now a full-fledged basilica.

One radio reporter when asked where he was situated during the procession, told the anchor: “Nia ko’s duol sa menore.” The basilica was gone.
