Let's not provoke Mother Nature
The Myanmar court has rejected Aung San Suu Kyi’s appeal re her house arrest extension. Suu what else is new?
* * *
Suu Kyi should’ve asked the court not to extend some more the extension of her house arrest. But even that is already rejected.
* * *
You can’t appeal to the Myanmar military-ruled court. Even Ondoy is afraid of the Burmese military. He destroyed RP, Vietnam and Cambodia but not Myanmar.
* * *
Ondoy was not choosy. He destroyed houses, cars, lives. He even destroyed a septic tank which hurt many in the nose.
* * *
The septic tank was owned by Senator Jinggoy who said the waste from the tank mixed with the floodwater that flowed into his home.
* * *
Senator Ping may now deliver one more privilege speech and say: “The gentleman from San Juan stinks.”
* * *
Seriously now, the tragedy in Luzon has spawned many heroes. Those who actually risked their lives. They included bystanders, cops, soldiers, showbiz people, media people. I’m still checking if there were politicians.
* * *
Ondoy was unstoppable. After causing untold destruction in the Philippines, he went to Vietnam as Ketsana and again unleashed his fury there. He also went to Cambodia. But failed to enter military-ruled Myanmar where strangers are banned.
* * *
After the tragedy that hit RP, two successive earthquakes of high intensity shook Indonesia causing much property damage and more deaths than the death toll caused by Ondoy in RP.
* * *
And yet, Indonesia is said to have an efficient earthquake preparedness program. Just goes to show that no one can stop nature’s anger if it is provoked.
* * *
My good friend Ramoncito Sta. Romana agrees: “That’s right. We can’t stop nature’s anger when nature is provoked. But we could stop the provocation that could lead to nature’s anger.”
* * *
“Provocation,” Ramoncito explains, “like molesting the ecology or the environment and doing nothing to prevent or stop this molestation.” He stressed that these deadly floods, typhoons, earthquakes, landslides, etc. are evidences of the climate change we’ve been suffering from due to our abuse of the environment.

My friend Ramoncito — or Chito to his friends — loves to speak about the environment because he’s an “ecology bug” (he calls himself that). He has taken up studies in ecology in Manila and Tokyo. That’s why I listen to him when he talks about things like global warming and climate change.
