Gang of boys victimizing jeepneys

- The Ear -

An Ear source said a gang of boys that often hang out at the corner of V. Rama and N. Bacalso avenues after dark are making trouble for jeepneys there. When jeepneys stop at a red light the boys move in and ask for money from passengers. They are not contented with just begging from outside, they enter the jeepney and sit on the aisle until someone gives them something. And they hate being ignored. The Ear source said he used to feel sorry for the boys until he observed that they might be high on drugs when they do these things.

One of them, a boy sporting a Mohawk haircut, is more persistent and aggressive. The source said one time he entered a jeepney grabbed the packed meal a woman was bringing home to her family and would not let go until other passengers pulled him off her. Even as he left the jeepney he tried to grab the watch of another passenger. Many times barangay tanods and police have arrested these boys and returned them to their parents, but they are back in the streets a day later. They also change hangouts after they have been reported in one place, although they seem to love V. Rama-N. Bacalso corner as it is near a jeepney stop and an intersection.
