Floodwaters, arrogance and short tempers

- The Ear -

Rain and short tempers. The rain didn’t only bring floods last weekend. It also caused traffic and shortened people’s tempers. Vehicles along Bonifacio St. got stuck in the middle of the road with dead engines, causing heavy traffic along Sikatuna St. A police multicab driver, impatient with the traffic, keeped turning on the vehicle’s siren. Jeepney drivers and passengers got upset at the driver of the police vehicle. A passenger said, “Hilasa anang draybera gud. Naka drayb la’g multicab sa police, mora na’g kinsa. Kita gyud na siya nga puwerteng trapika, gasige’g pawangwang sa siren. Lami duklon.”

Streetside traffic enforcers. Because of the flood, traffic on many streets in downtown Cebu were at a standstill. Last Saturday night, movement of vehicles were very slow. Since there were no enforcers around, street thugs of T. Padilla were seen manning traffic and directing the vehicles. One of the passengers who got upset at the arrogant police multicab driver saw this and said, “Maayo pa ning mga bugoy, naa pay pulos. Katong drayber sa pulis, wala gyuy nabuhat.”
