Con-Ass has stolen the daylights from the Hayden-Katrina sex scandal. But not to worry guys. If scandal you want, you still got this scandal in the House.
* * *
Some political kibitzers say the Con-Ass is as scandalous as the Hayden-Katrina sex scandal. There’s also nakedness in it – the naked truth that there’s a hidden (no, no, not Hayden) agenda in it.
* * *
Sen. Mar Roxas is fighting the Con-Ass with ahos (garlic) because he calls the House move Con-Asswang. In Mar’s Capiz, the old folks fight aswang with ahos. You know that?

A Singaporean traveler dropped by to ask where he could get a detailed map of the city streets. “I have been looking for it since I arrived two days ago but could not find any,” he said, adding: “A salesgirl in a mall showed me a big world map where she could not even point to me where the Philippines is. Ha! Ha!”
* * *
In Singapore, you see, all kinds of detailed maps –streets, leading stores, hotels, etc.—are found in the lobbies of hotels, restaurants, airport; everywhere and anyone can take out as many as he wants for free. The Singaporean government is making things easy and convenient for the travelers and tourists, no wonder its tourism industry continues to boost the Lion City’s economy. Yet, they don’t have such slogan as “Wow, Singapore!”

My long-lost friend Leandro Sta. Maria came home for a brief visit from the US last week and took time out to see me at the office. We talked about many things including the swine flu and our mutilated dirty peso bills.
* * *
Leandro said: “Ang health authorities mora’g nipanik tungod sa swine flu pero wa lang magpakabana sa mga dunot ug hugaw nga kwarta mga nagpadayon og sirkular.” He said those “dirty and rotten” banknotes in your pocket could be carriers of germs and even perhaps the so-called A(H1N1) virus. Hala!
* * *
One thing amazed me about my friend Leandro. He’s been in the US for some 20 years but he still speaks impeccable Cebuano. No American twang in his English. So unlike some people I know who’ve been in the US for only a few years but could no longer speak Cebuano the way Cebuano is spoken. And, you know, Leandro holds a master’s degree in English.

E-mail from Fidela Llorente: “The garment manufacturers in Metro Manila are complaining about the flourishing ukay-ukay industry. They want to ban ukay-ukay. If the ukay-ukay is banned, can these profit-hungry garment makers provide cheap but quality clothing for our impoverished countrymen many of whom wore rags?”

A nun of my acquaintance asked me to support her move to convince higher education authorities to encourage the revival of Catechism in schools. She said: “Kon gipadayon lang ang Catechism sa mga eskuwelahan, wala untay nahitabo nga Hayden-Katrina sex scandal." OK, I support your advocacy, Sister.
