Letter to the Editor - Excessive use of force in Failon et al arrest
Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Liza Maza today scored the harsh conduct of warrantless arrests of Ted Failon, his wife’s siblings, and their household helpers by elements of the Philippine National Police.
“The brutal manner by which the arrests were done is deplorable. This matter should be immediately investigated and the police forces involved in the said arrest should be penalized,” said Maza.
The elements of the PNP were seen physically harassing and dragging the family members during the arrest.
“This brazen act of excessive use of force by police elements only manifests how they can violate human rights. Napakalakas ng loob nilang labagin ang karapatan ng mga kapamilya ng biktima,” Maza stressed.
The Gabriela solon also reminded the police force to show respect and just consideration for the family members who are mourning over the death of Ted Failon’s wife Trinidad Etong yesterday.
