EDITORIAL - Go get the deceivers and exploiters

-

It is good that Governor Gwen Garcia has filed a case against the organizers of a “fashion show” that had really nothing to do about fashion. It was really a "bikini show" whose real intent needs no elaboration.

Not that we are prudes or anything, but it is high time somebody put a stop to this great deception because the longer we allow ourselves to be insulted intellectually, the greater the risk of our being insulted intellectually forever.

And that is not good because to be insulted intellectually forever is to be idiotized. And the holding of bikini shows disguised as fashion shows is one of the most potent means to idiotize the Cebuanos.

If people want bikini shows, there are establishments in Cebu City and in some other places that cater to these things, and they have the permits to engage in these types of businesses.

But to pass off what is clearly a sex-oriented show as something that is cultural and creative as a fashion show is not only deceptive, it is also, as the governor defined it, exploitative.

It truly exploits when you have women who have been made to believe they are in something lofty as a fashion show parade their bodies in what is clearly an activity that is held for no other reason than to arouse sexual interests.

For instance, having a bold starlet like Maui Taylor on the show is a dead giveaway of what the show is all about. Certainly you do not associate someone like that as a come on for a true fashion show.

Again, it is good that people who try to deceive others in order to exploit even more are put in their proper places. Only when we have a good sense of order can everything that is good fall into their proper places.
