Solving crime in Consolacion

- Letter To The Editor -

I would like to shed light to the published news item in the other local newspaper, which bannered, "Consolacion tops list of towns with highest no. of cases filed" last year.

Such record only reflects the positive results from the joint efforts between the Municipal Officials of Consolacion and the police department, and is also the manifestation of the very commendable accomplishments made by the former chief of police of Consolacion, PINSP. Leoncio B. Baliguat.

Considering that the Municipality of Consolacion is a fast growing local government unit (LGU), it is expected as a natural and logical consequence, that the incidence of criminality will rise simultaneously upon the increase of population and other economic activities in the area.

Our major thrust and concern in solving the incidence of criminality is getting into the root cause of these crimes, which are attributed to the illegal and various vices of the people, ranging from gambling, drug addiction, etc., which prompts them to commit such crimes of theft, homicide, etc. to satisfy their vices.

It just happen that in our effort to solve the incidence of crimes, the illegal drugs problem tops the list of our agenda and has been identified by the local police to be the most pernicious root cause of criminality. Thus, the former chief of police, PINSP. Leoncio B. Baliguat, should be credited by his relentless drive in effecting arrests of drug pushers and drug users in the municipality.

Hoping I have enlightened the public of the background of such news item.
