The outspoken St. Teresa Avila
It says here that the longest word in the dictionary has more than 50 letters. Bob Phillips, my favorite humor writer, says the longest word is often heard on radio and TV. It’s “the word from our sponsors.”

Many are protesting the habit of some government employees who come to the office late. One nerd of an employee says: “That’s true but we’re also leaving the office early.” Ugh!

I just read an article about St. Teresa of Avila. She is outspoken. Just like my friend and fellow columnist Bobit Avila. She once prayed: “Lord, save me from sour-faced saints.”

Someone has suggested that the image of our saint-to-be Pedro Calungsod be changed. “In his present statue,” this someone said, “he looks more like a pelotari than a saint.” He says that “thing” Beato Pedro is holding looks like a jai-alai cesta. “Why not change it to a cross?” he proposed.

Did you know that the model for the icon of Beato Pedro Calungsod is PBA basketball player Ronald Tubid? Tubid was still with the UE cage team when a priest saw him and thought he (Tubid) would be a perfect replica of the Cebuano saint-in-the-making. And did you know that Ronald Tubid is Ilonggo?

The news says the Philippine National Police needs more policemen. They should not be just policemen but good policemen. My friend Teddy H. says: “Just because there is an urgent need for more cops is no reason for the PNP to hire just any Tom, Dick and Harry to fill the need.” Strict recruitment rules must be followed.

“If necessary, those abusive and troublesome rookies (Police Officers one) must be yanked out and replaced with cops who can bring honor to the police organization,” Teddy H. suggests. I second the suggestion.

The Ambassador Francisco L. Benedicto Masscom Studio will be blessed and inaugurated on Feb. 9, 2009 at the 4th floor of San Jose Building, USJ-R Main Campus. This I learned from Dr. Teoddie B. Dumam-ag, Dean, College of Arts and Sciences. The Ambassador is now involved in the academy. He has founded a college named Benedicto College which has been doing quite well.
