Chinese advice: Follow our attitude, not only symbolisms
KUNG HEI FAT CHOY! Today is the Chinese New Year. With many Filipinos following the Chinese tradition of greeting the new year, they are also seen in Chinese stores buying tikoy, oranges, lucky charms and the usual food and items the Chinese buy to welcome the Year of the Ox. When a housewife was asked why she follows the practice of the Chinese, she answered, “Wala may mawala kung mosunod ta sa ilang tinuhuan, di ba? Ayawat na lang, suwertehon pod diay ta.”
ATTITUDE NOT SYMBOLISMS. But a Chinese businesswoman was heard telling an Ear informer, “Maayo man na the Filipinos also follow our tradition in welcoming the new year. Pero mas importante they follow the Chinese attitude towards work. These symbolisms of money and good luck mean nothing kung tamad ang tao. We also work hard, that’s why money come in.”
