Letter To The Editor: Support for the Anti-Discrimination bill

Having interacted with members of the Third Sex and having spent time studying the essence of civil liberties in connection with Cebu society, I declare my support for the Anti-Discrimination bill. Not only will this bill help locals realize gender equality in its true form, it will also add stability to our society on all levels.

There is no good reason why we, the "normal" people, should discriminate others based on their sexuality. Discriminating over sexual orientation is simply as evil and immoral as racism. The civil rights issue is at the very core of this struggle to promote a stable and transparent Cebu society. At the same time, we people must not let religious leaders and "moral" advocates dictate us on what we believe in and how we practice our rights.

I urge my fellow readers to support the Anti-Dscrimination bill and I also urge our lawmakers to disregard their religious beliefs when taking part in the outcome of this landmark Filipino civil liberties bill. - Ritchie D. Nolasco, Banilad, Cebu City
