Lungs main prerequisite in the Senate

Guv Gwen Garcia has kept her word never to attack Mayor Tom O while he’s still sick. It’s unchristian to flog a dead, er, sick horse. Never mind if the sick horse does the flogging.

A college professor says “high educational attainment is a prerequisite in the Senate.” I’ve been thinking all along that a good pair of lungs is the lone prerequisite.

Before they were executed by firing squad, the three Bali bombers shouted “Allah hu Akhbar!” (God is Great!). God is great indeed. In this case, He showed this greatness by His act of getting rid of the mad bombers.

The Bali bombers called their victims (202 dead, scores injured) “infidels.” That’s adding insult to injury. Or rubbing salt on the wounds of the victims and their bereaved kin.

E-mail from a Hawaii-based reader who just signed his message with “Alohaoe”: “Did you know that President-elect Barack Obama has many Filipino friends in Hawaii? In fact, according to stories I heard, one of his childhood sweethearts was a Filipina whose parents were from the Ilocos.”

The reader said: “This Filipina childhood sweetheart of Barack O later became an officer of the US Navy. I cannot elaborate on this information because I only heard the story from some Pinoy friends who live in the neighborhood of the president-elect.”

So there is a 50 centavos rollback in PUJ fare. The drivers are not happy that the fare has been rolled back. The commuters, on the other hand, are not happy that the rollback is just a drop in the bucket, so to speak. You really can’t please all the people at the same time.

Obit. Pete Abangan, a wellknown local political commentator, died recently and was buried last Monday. Pete is the elder brother of Vic Abangan, also known as a political broadcastman. Pete and Vic took the cudgels for Serging Osmeña when the political kingpin parted ways with Talyux Bacalso. Pete was a grand knight of the Naga Knights of Columbus and an active member of Sukna, a grouping of Sugbuanon radio commentators.
